Gamers are usually individuals who are deeply invested in internet trends and internet culture, and with the resurgence of the Y2K aesthetic through custom websites, blingee and blinkie gif creation, and Y2K fashion, it'd make sense to create a product that would appeal to that audience. The only function the website would have would be to inform potential customers of the product and serve as a sales platform.
